Ask any Shreveport homeowner who's waited: a pine stump "rots away in a couple years" is a myth. In our climate, a stump can sit for a decade — meanwhile it's a mower-blade assassin, a trip hazard, a termite condo, and the reason that section of your yard looks abandoned. Grinding is the fast, clean fix: our tracked grinder chews the stump 8–12 inches below grade, and most jobs are done in under an hour.
We grind stumps from our own removals and from trees other companies (or ambitious DIYers with a chainsaw) took down. If you've got a yard full of old stumps from years of "we'll deal with it later," we offer multi-stump discounts — the grinder's already on the trailer, so each additional stump costs far less than the first.
Our grinder is a tracked machine about the width of a riding mower — it fits through a standard 36-inch gate, so backyard stumps are no problem. The cutting wheel shreds the stump and major surface roots into chips, working down to 8–12 inches below the surrounding grade. We then rake the chips level. You choose what happens next:
True stump removal — excavating the entire root ball — requires heavy equipment, tears up a huge area, and costs 3–4x more. For 95% of residential situations, grinding is the better answer: the remaining roots decay harmlessly underground, and you can plant, sod, or build over the spot. The exception is when you're putting in a foundation, pool, or driveway exactly where the stump sits — then we'll tell you upfront that excavation is the right call, and we can coordinate it.
Pricing is mostly about diameter: most single stumps run $150–$400. Small ornamental stumps can be under $150; massive old-growth oak stumps with sprawling surface roots run higher. Multi-stump jobs get meaningful per-stump discounts — if your lot has five old pine stumps from the previous owner, one visit handles all of them for far less than five separate trips.
The rental grinders at the big-box stores are underpowered, beat you up for four hours, and still leave you with a half-ground stump and a pile of chips to deal with. We've finished plenty of jobs that started as a Saturday rental. Save the weekend — most of our grinding jobs cost less than the rental plus your chiropractor bill.
